How to Replace a Honda HR-V Key Battery (2016 – Present) Smart Key
This smart key has been used since the HR-V was first introduced in 2016. It has been used in HR-V model years:

In this article, we are going to show you how to change the battery for a Honda HR-V, and this is for model years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 in the present. So, this is this one’s a really easy Fob to change. So if you look on the back, there’s a little knob here that’s got like an arrow. It looks like pointing down.
So go ahead and pull that towards you and then pull out the internal valet key, and we don’t even need any tools to do this. So we can take the valet key. If you look at this key Fob, there’s a nice line that goes all the way around it. This one’s really easy to switch and change and pop into two pieces.
So the fastest way to do that is take your valet key, put it right in the middle there. There’s kind of a slot where it will fit perfectly if you line it up right in the middle, and then just kind of twist your valet key a little bit, and don’t worry about breaking this Fob. It’s really easy to come apart, and this just slides apart in two pieces.
You can see the battery that we need to change the CR 2032. Again, this is for the Honda HR-V smart key Fob, and to get this out, you can just take your key Fob, get underneath that, pop that thing out. We find it easiest to pop out. From this side, you can see there’s some two longer teeth that kind of hold in battery.
So when you’ve got a new one to put in new CR 2032, make sure the positive side with the lettering is facing towards you. Put underneath the longer teeth first, pop it in, and that’s how you do that. Then we’ll just go ahead and get you the piece, snap that back together, boom, and put your valet key back in, and you’re done. That’s how you change the key. Battery on the HR-V smart key.
How to Replace a Honda HR-V Key Fob Battery (2014 – Present) Physical Key Rectangle Buttons

In this article, we’re going to show you how to change the Honda HR-V key. So this physical key has been used since 2014. So the first thing you’re going to need is a really small screwdriver set. Because you turn over the back of this key and there’s a really tiny screw and this is the first step that we got to do.
So the first time you do this, it can be kind of difficult. This has already loosened, so it will go pretty quick here, but the first time you’re going to really need to dig in and get that screw out. Once you’ve got the screw out, if you look on the side, there’s a small notch. Go ahead and take a flathead screwdriver, small flathead screwdriver into that notch and they put that there so you can get some leverage to be able to pop off the back of this key Fob.
So get in there and we have to go around a little bit, but this will snap right off. Okay, once we’ve got the backing off, you can see we have access to the internal coin battery. Take your flathead and just kind of gently get underneath the battery. Nothing will pop right up. Any battery that you need is CR 1623 volts coin battery.
Make sure when you put this one back in that the lettering is down, so you shouldn’t see any positive sign or anything facing towards you. We found in this one, if you push in from the top, from where these metal kind of prongs are first and then kind of push down into the plastic parts, it will go in a lot easier.
Once you’ve got the new battery in, just go ahead and replace the backing and snap that back together like so put a little screw back in and that’s it.
